Engineered Wood Fiber for Playground Surfacing

Engineered Wood Fiber for Playgrounds

Engineered wood fiber (EWF), also known as playground wood chips, has become a popular type of playground surfacing due to their low initial cost, ease of installation, local availability and low lifetime overall cost. Other common types of playground surfacing include poured in place playground surfacing, rubber tiles, playground sand, etc.

All of these playground surfacing products are readily available through Pacific Play Systems for delivery and installation throughout Southern California, including, but not limited to, communities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Lemon Grove, San Marcos, Escondido, Vista, Oceanside, Irvine, etc.

Playground safety standards set forth by the ASTM F1487-11 and CPSC 325 mandate that an impact absorbing type of playground surfacing must be placed under and around all commercial play equipment for public use.

Depending upon the type of playground surfacing used, its cost can be a major part of the budget for any commercial playground facility, whether it is for a new facility or upgrading playground surfacing at an existing playground site. Given the recent budget cuts for cities and public schools, it is now, more than ever, imperative that site operators choose a playground surfacing type that is affordable, reliable and easy to maintain.

Engineered wood fiber has emerged as an extremely reliable source of playground surfacing which is also capable of providing ADA access to playgrounds when compacted and maintained properly.

Engineered Wood Fiber Uses

As Southern California’s leading playground provider, Pacific Play Systems delivers high quality commercial playground equipment with reduced freight costs, thanks to its West Coast manufacturing. This local production not only ensures cost savings for our clients but also minimizes the environmental impact by reducing pollution associated with transporting products from distant locations, such as the East Coast.

Driven by a strong commitment to safety, our commercial playground equipment meets or exceeds the stringent design and safety standards outlined in US-CPSC Publication 325 and ASTM Publication F-1487-21. Additionally, our equipment is engineered to comply with the latest ADA accessibility guidelines established by the Federal Access Board. For school installations, our playground equipment is specifically designed to meet DSA requirements, ensuring smooth approval from the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
