At Pacific Play Systems, we take immense pride in transforming playgrounds into vibrant, safe, and innovative spaces for children of all ages. Our Fullerton playground installation at Acacia Park is a shining example of our dedication to community engagement and creative design.
The Challenge
The City of Fullerton approached us with a pressing issue: their existing playground had become outdated and unsafe. The old wooden structures were notorious for giving children splinters, and the deteriorated rubber surfacing posed significant safety hazards. It was clear that a complete overhaul was needed to create a play space that the community could enjoy and feel safe using.
Community Engagement and Design Process
We believe in the power of community input, so we began by designing three unique playground options and presenting them to the neighborhood. The engagement session was a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from residents, understand their needs, and gather valuable feedback. This collaborative approach allowed us to refine our designs and ensure that the final playground would be a true reflection of the community’s desires.
The Final Design
After thoughtful consideration and incorporating community feedback, the final playground design includes a large, engaging space for children aged 5-12, featuring a distinctive 7-foot mammoth head. This unique feature pays homage to Tuffy the Titan, the beloved mascot of nearby Cal State Fullerton. Tuffy symbolizes the university’s spirit: strong, passionate, driven, yet friendly and welcoming—qualities we aimed to reflect in the playspace.
Key Features
The playground boasts several standout elements:
- Unique Mammoth Head: A striking visual centerpiece and nod to local pride.
- Traditional Play Elements: Swings and a fun spinner provide a variety of activities.
- Modern, Vibrant Design: Colors blend with the natural surroundings, creating an inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment.
Safety and Durability
Safety is at the core of our designs. The new EWF surfacing is durable, impact-absorbing, and eliminates the hazards of the old rubber surfacing. Parents can now feel confident that their children are playing in a secure environment.
A Milestone Achievement
Completing this Fullerton playground installation marks a significant milestone for Pacific Play Systems. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact it will have on the community. This playground is more than a play area; it’s a space where children can learn, grow, and create lasting memories.
